Supervision of the Working Hours Act
The Working Hours Act sets limits on the number of hours of work, provides for employee rest periods and includes specific provisions for work by vulnerable groups such as children, young people, pregnant women and those who have recently given birth. Working for too many hours can be a burden for employees and can threaten or affect their health and safety.
The Labour Inspectorate ensures that the working hours and rest periods specified in the Working Hours Act are not violated.
The Labour Inspectorate also checks whether proper records are maintained of the hours worked. If the AI detects violations, sanctions will be imposed (see Enforcement and penalties for more information).
